Worker Zombie Character Guide

Area: The Graveyard

Type: Worker

Counter: Work Zones

Where Worker Zombies Come From

You make them yourself on the Resurrection Table in the basement Resurrection Lab. The corpse must arrive with all six vital organs — skull, brain, heart, guts, bones, and skin — intact, and a Surgeon's Error on the body blocks the resurrection outright. Each zombie also costs one Reanimation Liquid, sold by Gunter and the Alchemist or crafted at Laboratory II from 2 red, 1 green, and 4 blue runes. Your first two arrive free: the Plague Doctor hands them over during Sweet Dreams, and Gunter adds three more in Friendship Written in the Stars.

The Resurrection Device only fires on Envy days — one zombie per prepared table per activation, then the lab goes dark until the end of the next Lust. A successful Prayer for Storms unlocks any-day resurrections while the God of the storms' favor lasts.

How a Worker Runs

Workers inherit your skill trees through five masteries — Building, Smithing, Farming, Book writing, and Anatomy — and each carries one tool or weapon plus one piece of armor. Assign them through Work Zones and they operate workstations, run the Factory, resupply other zombies, sing in the church choir, and even march into battle. They also pick up work tokens from the ground automatically, so a routed workforce largely feeds itself. Name them from the 40-name roll in the resurrection window, or roll again until it fits.

Every red skull on the corpse opens one extra perk slot on the finished zombie, and the collar sets the ceiling: Bronze holds 5 red skulls, Golden 10, Steel 99. Collars upgrade later without rebuilding the zombie.

Role and Value

Worker Zombies are the engine of the game's zombie-based automation — the official pitch is transforming local effort into a scalable, profitable operation. They do the heavy lifting while you quest: harvesting flora, fauna, and human remains, feeding machinery, and expanding the graveyard for profit. Exceeding your zombie count limit does not block resurrection — that limit ties into the PR Machine instead — so build the workforce your production chains actually need. In practice, a keeper with a staffed Factory and a few farmers stops gathering by hand entirely.

Where Workers Fit in Your Progression

The first two workers from Sweet Dreams cover basic hauling; the three from Gunter's Friendship Written in the Stars are when automation starts compounding. From there, workers specialize: a Building-mastery crew for restoration, Smithing for the armor and weapons your fighters need, Farming and Book writing for the rural chains. Mastery trees are not cheap — Building alone runs 17 nodes and 4,600 red points — so plan points before bodies. By the endgame, the graveyard is less a cemetery than a factory floor with a church attached.
